How ChatHindi keeps its community safe — our standards, moderation system, reporting process, and enforcement philosophy.
ChatHindi is committed to being a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for every Indian. Human moderators — not just automated filters — review reports. Child safety reports are prioritised within 12 hours.
ChatHindi serves users from every state in India, every age group, every religion, every caste, every gender, and every walk of life. This diversity is our greatest strength — and it requires thoughtful, human-first moderation to preserve.
We believe in graduated enforcement — most violations deserve a warning and an opportunity to correct behaviour, not an immediate permanent ban. We also believe in human judgment — automated filters miss context, especially in Hindi and regional languages where the same word can be affectionate or abusive depending on relationship and tone. That is why every report on ChatHindi is reviewed by a human moderator.
We do not take sides in political debates, religious discussions, or regional disputes as long as they remain civil. ChatHindi is a space for all Indians — our moderation protects people, not viewpoints.
Any sexually explicit content is strictly prohibited on ChatHindi. This includes explicit images, pornographic descriptions, and sexual solicitation. Any sexual content involving minors is the most severe violation — it results in immediate permanent ban and mandatory reporting to NCPCR (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights) and Cyber Crime authorities. There are no warnings, no appeals, and no exceptions for this category.
Harassment means targeting someone with repeated unwanted messages, threats, or content designed to cause distress. This includes:
Content that dehumanises, attacks, or calls for violence against any group based on:
India's social fabric requires extra sensitivity around caste-based hate speech — slurs targeting Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or OBC communities are treated as severe violations on par with other hate speech categories. Similarly, communal content designed to inflame Hindu-Muslim, Hindu-Christian, or any inter-religious tension is strictly prohibited.
Sharing another user's private information — real name, phone number, address, workplace, school — without their explicit consent. This includes sharing screenshots of private conversations to embarrass or expose someone.
Sending identical messages to multiple users or rooms, promoting products/services without permission, fake giveaways, pyramid schemes, or any commercial activity without ChatHindi's written consent.
Content that glorifies, promotes, or provides methods for self-harm or suicide. ChatHindi takes mental health seriously. If someone appears to be in crisis, moderators are trained to respond compassionately and connect them with appropriate resources (iCall: 9152987821, Vandrevala Foundation: 1860-2662-345).
Our enforcement is graduated based on the severity and frequency of violations:
| Violation Type | First Offence | Repeat Offence |
|---|---|---|
| Minor (spam, mild rudeness) | Warning + message deleted | 24-hour ban |
| Moderate (harassment, hate speech) | 3-day ban + message deleted | 30-day or permanent ban |
| Serious (doxxing, explicit content) | Immediate 30-day ban | Permanent ban |
| Severe (CSAM, threats of violence) | Immediate permanent ban + authorities | N/A |
Banned users may not create new accounts to circumvent bans. Sock puppet accounts detected after a ban will also be permanently banned. Circumventing a ban is itself a violation.
When reporting, include: the username of the offender, description of the violation, timestamps if known, and any screenshots. Screenshots are especially helpful for content that the user may delete after reporting.
ChatHindi's admins and moderators can view:
Moderators cannot access DMs (direct messages) except when a formal report includes specific DM content as evidence. DM content is only accessible to administrators investigating reported content — never read for any other purpose. We treat DM privacy as a fundamental user right.
If you believe a moderation action (ban, message deletion, warning) was applied incorrectly, you have the right to appeal. To appeal:
We review all appeals within 48 hours and reply with the outcome. Appeals for severe violations (CSAM, threats of violence, harassment campaigns) are not accepted. For all other violations, every user gets one fair appeal review.
ChatHindi believes in transparency about how we moderate. We are a small team — not a faceless corporation. When mistakes happen, we acknowledge them. Our moderators are humans who sometimes get things wrong, and our appeal process exists precisely to correct those mistakes.
We do not publish a public transparency report currently, but we commit to doing so annually once our platform grows to a scale where it becomes meaningful. We want users to trust that moderation is fair, consistent, and free from bias toward any particular community, religion, or political viewpoint.
